the importance of being civic

Saturday was grim - grey, cold, wet - so did not ride my bike there.
but the rainy weather also meant that lots of people showed up - the speakers mentioned the number "400" several times. and I am proud to say Dorchester was very well-represented.

it was pretty inspiring.
Adam Gaffin of UniversalHub.com was there and has some good coverage of the event, including great photos of the lovely & talented co-chairs Maureen Feeney and Jim Rooney [both of Dorchester.]

I enjoyed the panel with John Henning, Joyce Ferriabough and Adam G.
blogging was oft-mentioned for effective communication, it was weird that I had just started this blog...
the lunchtime speakers were fab, but I felt badly about chewing and slurping instead of hanging on their every word.
really cool technology (of course I am easily wowed) that enabled them to poll us all and have the results posted within minutes and print up a preliminary report that was available for us at the end of the day.
I will be returning to the immense overhang of the BCEC on June 3d to see how I can help (because I am genetically unable to say "no" apparently) the anti-trash and graffiti action team clean up all Boston within one year.
