Granite Railway Quarry-to-Wharf tours

Explore the site of the first chartered commercial railroad in our nation. Weekend tours: Sat., Sept. 22 & Sun., Sept. 23, and Sat., Oct. 27 & Sun., Oct. 28. Visit the preserved 1826 railway terminus at Bunker Hill Ledge, plus surviving parts of the old right-of-way; quarries with spectacular views; the 1830 double-track incline; the Neponset River wharf; and other structures significant to the granite, iron and railroad industries in Quincy. Tours led by railroad enthusiast (and Dorchester resident) Vic Campbell. See flyer here. [One of the reasons I started this blog was to help uncover hidden delightfulness in and around Dorchester. Starting when I moved here back in 1986, I'd keep hearing about fun events and activities after the fact, either because a select few in the know are too busy to get the word out or there is just so much going on or I wasn't looking in the right places. Frustrating. So now I try to uncover and plug hidden opportunities before they happen. And it seems lots of others are catching on to the cool stuff that happens here in Boston's largest and most historic neighborhood.]
